Well, it seems I have a memory problem.

I am sure about 12.04.03 and 12.04.04.
I cannot be sure about the previous releases, and I do not plan to re-install
my OS to check it.

It was very rare. Upgrading from 12.04 to 14.04 increased the frequency
of the problem by a great deal. Instead of once in 2-3 weeks it became
once in 2 days.

Happens both with 3.16-rc1 and 3.16-rc2.
Reproduces quickly when playing video. Just left my computer to play a long
list of HD videos for a few hours and that's it.
Another thing to note, and might be of importance, is the fact that I am using

Well, I provided the information you asked (tried 3.15.1-utopic, which
is very new) and reported that the problem was not fixed. But the bug
still appears "incomplete". Do you need any other information? Is there
any other way I can assist in solving this bug?

Tried it with 3.15.1-utopic too (Linux alex-laptop 3.15.1-031501-generic

The whole system froze again, just before my eyes.
This time the file-system was corrupted too and I had to run fsck after reboot.
Going back to

Downloaded it from here:

It was recommended in the page to install kernels that fit my distribution. But
now I see that it would be better to test with a newer kernel. Will re-try with
this one and report back:

Well, the problem happened again after a BIOS update. Again, mouse does
not move, keyboard does not respond, cannot switch to a text-mode
terminal using Ctrl+Alt+F1. Only a power-off and power-on works.
Here is the output you requested:
alex@alex-laptop:~$ sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dm
After a BIOS update I have not encountered full system freeze, but I
have encountered a different freeze that seems random - nothing
responds, not even Ctrl+Alt+F1, but the mouse does move.
I will follow my laptop for a few days and report more info.
