I also have same problem on Ubuntu 20.04 (kernel: 5.4.0-18-generic) on
both HDMI or USB-C, used to work fine on 19.10 with 5.3.

I have this same problem on Ubuntu 19.10 on ThinkPad X1 Carbon 7th gen.
