The failure happens rather early in the boot process. when booting Lubuntu
Questing from a USB pendrive. The grub menu is OK, but the process get stuck
with a repeated error output to t

I had problems to zsync the current daily Lubuntu Questing iso file, but
I could zsync the corresponding Ubuntu Desktop Questing iso file. And I
found a workaround.
I saw in the busybox (available after the complaints about /dev/sr0)

The laptop ran about a week before freezes started again. This time I took out
the battery, and it then started to run noticeably smoother and peppier,
including video. Almost felt like a new laptop, or like getting a new lease on
an old one.

explicitly say how to install it so I enabled proposed and then ran:
sudo apt install linux-generic-hwe-24.04-edge/noble-proposed
After rebooting it shows I'm running the 6.14 kernel

platform requires the new FWs to enable the gfx1153 architecture, which
contains the IP blocks(DCN, PSP, SDMA, etc.).
Without this firmware amdgpu won't bind.
