I have the same problem on a Lenovo T460s. Adrian Wilkins described it
very well in #6.
Like Duncan L. wrote Kernel 6.7 from the mainline archive works fine.

This also happens when you install lxd on vanilla Ubuntu 24.04.1 LTS.
Autotrim seems to be enabled by default (at least on SSDs), so I think a
lot of users will be affected by this bug.

[Impact]
After unplugging and re-plugging the Ethernet cable, the r8169 NIC stop working
and reports an error "transmit queue 0 timed out". The connection will remain
broken until around 15 minutes.

Apply the fix from upstream solves the issue:
