I am having the same problem with the same hardware. On my laptop also
it works which is an Intel controller. On every AMD EPYC machine
(starship USB controller) I have tried I get libusb timeouts and nothing
in the kernel logs. Using a PCIe riser card ASMedia ASM3142 I get the
same errors as you.

hi, i like portions of the patch, but not quite where in the machinery
it is implemented.
As we have many more packages that ship .ko modules, and those debs
should not be compressed.

NVIDIA GFX is boot VGA. On that case, fbdev /dev/fb* is not created.

the ath9k drivers do not work
"freeing initrd memory" pointed me in the right direction.
I have modified /etc/initramfs-tools/initramfs.conf short time before.
changed "COMPRESS=bzip2" and got a smaller file in the file-system
moved back to "COMPRESS=zstd" , update-initramfs -u and got the original
filesize.
