No, this is the sound from the headphone jack, not the monitor. I agree
it's not immediately apparent how those commits could affect the sound.
When I go into the sound settings it shows my headphones as plugged in.
But even when I try to use the "test left" and "test right" buttons
nothing comes
I would do nothing. The remaining debugging steps are too complicated.

The steps after this would require a little more expertise. They would
involve bisecting the kernel history which is probably too complicated.
Maybe the kernel team have some ideas for simpler suggestions than that,
but otherwise I am out of ideas. You should probably just stick to a
kernel version

enter I removed all the nvidia drivers. I can log in now.
Can I uninstall the nvidia driver and reinstall it? Choose 460?

No please don't change Nvidia drivers again. It only creates risk of new
problems. And besides, it looks like the main issue here is not being
caused by Nvidia.

Thanks. I can't see anything that would explain a black screen in that
log (assuming you did get a black screen). It looks like you switched to
Nvidia driver 460 and it is working properly. Is it?
Does reverting to kernel 5.8.0-43 still work? If switching kernel

worked. Eventually I downgraded the package and now my sound is working
again.
