I had the same problem with Lenovo Flex 6 14IKB on Focal Fossa
(5.4.0-28). I followed Kai-Heng Feng's sugggestion and updated the BIOS.
Luckily I had a dual-boot Windows on that machine and was able to do so
easily. Now it's working flawlessly.

I think my recent upgrade to Focal (20.04) using 5.4.0.28 version of the
kernel still shows this problem. Wifi was working properly under 19.10 (not
sure which kernel I was using, I did a fresh install) but now using rtw88 and
rtwpci I have no wireless connection.

Had to search through the all the menu options twice to find it.
Enabling the LAN Boot ROM had no (noticeable) effect.
The only difference I can see from a quick scan through is in the dmesg
output of the good kernel giving IRQ 36 instead of IRQ 35.

I tried your suggestion without luck. The screen remains black, the
backlight was switched on. To verify I tried multiple times.
The only true workaround (with KDE) is to switch the compositor off
before turning into sleep. You have to switch the compositor on after
return from suspend.
Another correction. For the one workaround, switching to discrete
graphics in the BIOS only seemed to get past the initial gnome login.
But resuming from DPMS off/suspend, the same error loop happens even
when hybrid graphics is disabled in the BIOS.
