Thanks. As this issue is seen with the 4.15 Bionic (18.04) kernel, I'll
update the tags and title accordingly. From Frank's comment above, I
think we can assume that this is fixed in Focal (20.04).

@Renaud,
No Speaker? I could understand there is no microphone. Maybe the sound
driver sof fails to load firmware or topology, then you will get a dummy
sound card (no speaker and no microphone). Please check your dmesg, it
will tell you what is wrong for the sound driver.
And even the driver sof
I started seeing this error when moving to 19.04 and later to 20.04.
I suspected a hardware error, yet memtest (from a Ubuntu boot) comes out fine,
after a couple of hours.
I suspected hardware since failure tends to happen when the system does heavy
load, although it happened on normal operati
Working on a HP Elitebook 830 G6 under Ubuntu 19 I faced the sound issue.
My sound card was not detesnd_soc_sklcted.
I am therefore using the workaround "options snd-hda-intel dmic_detect=0"
I noticed blacklisting snd_soc_skl was not needed.
This way my laptop's speaker are working.
Now I also need

Well, that is unfortunately something that is usually not done and shipped with
the distro, since it's too specific for a special generations of a system and
the function is even given w/o this.
May I suggest that we pick this up in the release notes, like:
"
Performance tests showed that it is

It seems that zram mitigates the problem for me during a work day. As long as
the system doesn't have to write swap to the disk, it seems fine. The longer I
use the system, the sooner it is running out of (z)ram and swapping also to
disk. As soon as this happens, I get these freezes again. I hav

our intention was *never* to revert a patch. What we propose is to trigger the
mentioned ethtool command (ethtool --set-priv-flags DEVNAME rx_striding_rq on)
as soon as the distro is running on a z14/z15 machine and the
