Sorry. I know that was closed a year ago, but this bug is still present
now.
I've updated my BIOS to the latest available version with no luck.
I'm on Debian. I think that's not directly related to Ubuntu. It may be
a bug in the kernel driver or maybe a hardware problem (let's hope it is

Could we give this a try again? The issue still exists even with the
newest mainline kernels. I'm still stuck with Linux 4.2.9.

I just tested 1.0.0.6a AGESA, and it does not solve this issue. In some
cases just one program will crash, and in other cases the entire system
will crash. I will test the workaround above later.

I was not expecting the 4.10 kernel to land in the HWE stack for LTS
without seeing a fix here, so I am genuinely worried about the LTS+HWE
stability now.
Can we get confirmation on the state of the HWE 4.10 kernel?

There are two patches to address the issue, one for v4.11[1] which can
be backported for 4.10 for zesty and current 4.11/master-next branch for
artful. The other one has been landed in v4.12[2].
I assume the first patch[1] should be landed for zesty. I can not

No change in kernel 4.12.3: Touchpad does not work on first boot, even
after toggling it using Fn+F9 (which now gives visual feedback).
Touchpad only works after resume from suspend (and the toggles work
after resume as well - I can enable/disable it normally).

Same behaviour on my ASUS P2520LA:
- RTL8821ae wireless stops working after few minutes, sometimes can be restored
by "sudo service network-manager restart" or by running Wicd Network Manager.
- I have tried a USB wireless dongle: Netgear WG111v2 and it also disconnects.
- First months with 16.04T

I noticed the HWE kernel rolled from 4.8 to 4.10.0-27-generic, and I
wondered if someone knows whether this bug was addressed in that?

I recently tried going up to 4.12. Unity did start but the firmware for
the Intel wireless device did not load. So I'm running a recent 4.11
right now. Since I use the laptop for work I'm reluctant to install a
RC. The 4.12 did mess up enough ☺️
