Trying Kernel 4.11 since yesterday. So far no blackscreens but I think I
should test it for a longer duration. Unfortunately Kernel 4.11 is no
real solution for me because of another suspend/resume bug that as far
as I can tell at the moment might exist since Kernel 4.9.

I had some similar suspend/resume issues when trying mainline Kernels in 16.04.
Every Kernel since 4.9 would cause terribly slow system after resuming.
I will test Kernel 4.8 in next days to see if this problem is present there too.

Sorry, I'm not sure what happened there. I meant to say that that is the
*actual* PHY on the SDP board. It's an Atheros 8031 PHY. I was hoping
that we could get away with the genphy driver that's built-in, but
apparently not.
Ubuntu should be building every PHY driver anyway. I don't know if
I have this issue with a Ryzen 1800X and a Gigabyte GA-AB350 Gaming (not
3) mainboard. I can boot the live desktop from USB if I pass acpi=off,
but /proc/cpuinfo lists only one core.

Joseph, I saved and restored the VM several times. Veeam backups
finished successfully two times in a row. The VM did not crash with your
kernel.
The error message on the login promp remains (see attachment in #17),
although I am not sure if that is connected to the crash.

I raised this bug and I am still affected by the bug (e.g. with the Audi
A3).
Due to the switch to the snap based OS I do not expect to see any
progress in the coming months for our phones (being a Aquaris e4.5
user). I think the expectation is that our phones only get security
