A colleague with the same laptop told me that Windows does not
experience any wired dock network dropouts.
To rule out any hardware being possibly faulty - I ran continuous
network file transfers on Windows 10 for 24 hours and did not see any
diminished performance, let alone any outright network

apt update/upgrade installed a new kernel version 4.4.0-64-generic which has
the same problem as mentioned in my first post (kernel 4.4.0-63-generic).
magic sysrq is also affected - the only way to restart the PC is a hard reset.

Hi Canonical,
In order to enable Ubuntu to read the PMU properly on a POWER9 system,
the following commits are required:
a2391b35f1 powerpc/perf: use is_kernel_addr macro in perf_get_
Request for a fix that showed up in the 4.10 kernel to be backported to
16.04 and 16.10. Please have the Kernel team review/respond. Thanks.
