Similar symptoms on Acer Aspire E5-521 - no touchpad or USB mouse, no
wifi, only generic graphics driver. Reverting to 4.4.0-42-generic is

Hello, final solution is as follows:
In short, nouveau is making ubuntu freeze, so we're booting around it
and choosing nvidia drivers to run after full install.
boot from usb
try ubuntu
install ubuntu from desktop, choose erase disk
restart
if at ubuntu 14.04,
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get u
I just cloned and compiled the latest commit. I can confirm it works and
my touchpad problem is solved without applying any patch. Thank you very

Nevermind. I can confirm that with that option
(CONFIG_HARDENED_USERCOPY_PAGESPAN) DISABLED it boots well. I recompiled
the kernel by myself and the only change was commenting out that option.
It works well both in VMware and on bare metal.

In the kernel I have (4.8.1) it is really not set. In the 4.8.0 kernel
