I can make the trackpad non working by doing a hard shutdown (holding the power
button for about 10s). Following the next reboot, the trackpad will no longer
be recognised.
The usual steps of rebooting into Windows first and then back into linux is the
only method I've found to make the trackpad
Sorry I misread the instructions. I had performed all 3 hibernate
susbystems in a row, after doing a full pm-hibernate, at which case the
trackpad was already no longer working.
I've redone it following a new reboot (after going into Windows first to
re-enable the trackpad)

I'm having this problem on my desktop running Ubuntu 16.04. After
resuming from suspend, my CPU (or GPU, not sure) fan is spinning up a
lot more than before doing a suspend. For example, I can watch Youtube
videos without hearing any fan noise normally, but once I've resumed
from standby the fan(s)

Immediately after installing the 4.8rc6 kernel, my system crashed again
on shutdown when I rebooted to launch the new kernel. The crash
occurred running on the old kernel before the reboot.
Now the system will not boot to the graphical user interface, regardless of
which kernel I choose in grub

It started happening when I switched to Gnome. At first I had both Gnome and
Unity next to each other and when I logged in to Unity, I could still change
the backlight normally.
It only doesn't work under Gnome strangely.
I've tested the new kernel, but it had no effect:
