I initially had this issue and when I changed my Nvidia drivers to
Nvidia binary driver 361.45.18 the problem does not occur while the
power is plugged in. Ie I can wake from sleep if the machine was

The touchpad on the HP Pavilion X2 is not configured properly by hid_rmi
and therefore is not detected at all later on by Xorg.
The following can be seen in kern.log:
