Ok, I _finally_ have an update on this. I put another hard drive into
the system, booted an Ubuntu 16.04.1 live DVD I burned today, and
installed Ubuntu 16.04.1 on this test hard drive. When I booted the
live DVD, the video issue occurred, so I re-booted and specified the
"nomodeset" parameter.

System reboots instead of shut
Hello,
I experienced the same problem on my new HP Pavillion 15 with nvidia
950M graphic card. After switching to nvidia driver the system boots
into a black screen. So I started playing around a little...
I've installed Ubuntu Gnome 16.04.01 and it ran fine with nouveau driver ->
system worked.
