This bug is causing dual monitor problem for me as well. It looks like

I notice dmesg is reporting this as an OpenBSD partition ("sdb4:

I did not succeed in running the proposed update in Ubunto 15.10. I
re-installed Ubuntu 15.10 several times and each time it developed the same
error when I installed the AMD video driver. I got tired of it and I now
installed Mint 17.3, which seems to be based on Ubuntu, and that works
flawlessly
Re-installed Ubuntu 14.04, did no updates, installed kernel 4.4, booted
in with nomodeset, wireless and wired network drivers don't work.
Alright. So I'm going to assume that this is just broken at this point,
I think.

Nomodeset worked again, removing 4.4.0 packages by following instructions here:

restarting and crossing my fingers that stuff will still work after this...
hangs on boot. Adding nomodeset again. Works.

Can you also test the latest upstream 4.2 stable kernel? That will tell
us if the fix was cc'd to stable and has already landed upstream.

we got twice a new multipath-tools package fixing the issue but unfortunately
the multipath daemon is crashing with it.
Canonical is still investigating on this issue.
