Hi,
I also have a Dell Inspiron 15R. Standby used to work with Ubuntu 12,
but stopped working upon upgrading to Ubuntu trusty 14.04. I attempted
upgrading kernel to 3.13.0-36, but this didn't solve the issu

Morover, the workaround mentioned above is also not working with the
mainline kernel.

This is what happens when I tried "echo 5 > sudo tee
/sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness". It instantly froze
everything except the mouse pointer, which froze after about 10 seconds

Please reopen. This happens to me for Ubuntu 14.04 on a Lenovo T530 with
nvidia drivers. It only happens when I switch to Discrete Graphics in
the BIOS, but running in Optimus breaks other things (cannot change the
virtual layout of external screens without glitches).

This same bluez version works with Ubuntu 14.10 current-daily-amd64 as
of 20 September. Bluez pairs, connects and is able to stream a2dp stereo
audio to my BT headset. This leads me to believe that the issues with
Bluetooth audio streaming aren't with bluez - perhaps PulseAudio or
another package.

Tested on 3.17-rc5-utopic as instructed, I observed the same behaviour:
all reset methods except writing to CF9 result in the system getting
stuck after the kernel issues the "Restarting System" message, then the
machine powers down suddenly.

This affected a Gateway NV78 that I installed Ubuntu 14.04 on. I
completed the install and repair using an external monitor. Comment #53
fixed the black screen issue without the final kernel changes. Thanks

Yesterday I mistakefully turn off computer during instalation of
upstream kernel. May be You call me wrong, but it's done. Today I can
not install downloaded upstream kernel, so I reinstall Ubuntu. And there

The symptom started: Since first run
I just bought a new laptop( the full model # on the box is K750LN-T4155
if that matters ) and since booting into Ubuntu through the Live USB the
touchpad wasn't working at al

All reset methods on a fully updated L702X with BIOS A19 (latest available
release) fail except for the PCI reset through CF9.
This is a regression from the 12.04 LTS kernel, and other OSes (namely, Windows
7) can reboot without problems.

I changed to "incomplete" since there are other people affected.

tracked, could you please file a new report with Ubuntu by executing the
following in a terminal while booted into the default Ubuntu kernel (not a
mainline one) via:
ubuntu-bug linux
For more on this, please read the
carrolcoo, for regression testing purposes, could you please test
12.04.0 (live environment is fine) via http://old-
releases.ubuntu.com/releases/12.04.0/ and advise to the results?
One will know it's 12.04.0 and not something newer as it will have kernel 3.2.x
