out that the bug was introduced in 2.6.37-2.9 natty kernel, and made it's way

In order to answer your question I got a Ubuntu 13.04 on a USB stick.
The problem occurs on Ubuntu 13.04 using the default nouveau drivers.
As for older versions, I don't know.
I also run Ubuntu 13.04 and the daily build on a older Dell Inspiron 1520N
laptop which has also a nvidia card.

Reporting that this fixes the touchpad on an Sony SVF13N1L2ES.
Horizontal and vertical scrolling works. Two finger clicking works as
well. xinput shows many new properties for the touchpad.

Sorry, I was not clear in my previous message: I tested development
version of Ubuntu, Ubuntu version 12 and Xubuntu version 12.
Ubuntu 12 and Xubuntu 12 use different kernels: Ubuntu 12 has kernel 3.8
(with e1000e 2.4) and Xubuntu 12 has kernel 3.2 (with e1000e 1.5).

in an "optimus" setup. In a default 14.04 install, the system is quite
flaky: suspend doesn't work and doing lspci apparently corrupts memory

I just installed Ubuntu and bug is gone. The difference is that Ubuntu
has kernel 3.8 with e1000e driver 2.4 and Xubuntu has kernel 3.2 with
e1000 driver 1.5
How can I install kernel from Ubuntu in Xubuntu? Why do they utilize
different kernels anyway?
