I updated to 13.10 today and installed jsalisbury's packages from
comment #72. Neither his 3.11 kernel, nor the 3.8 kernel from 13.04
work for me. They both show the Ubuntu splash screen for a second or
two and then drop me into the console. Ctrl + Alt + F7 just shows a
blinking cursor.

I've just upgraded to kernel 3.11.0.12.13 on Dell XPS 13 and the display
brightness is broken again (0%). This is on Saucy 13.10.
With 3.8.0-29.42 it works.

Here is dmesg with other workaround.
I started laptop with attached VGA and switched it default screen in grub with
Fn+F8 button. After it both displays work OK.

This is a regression since the 3.8 kernel from ubuntu 13.04.
I still have the 3.8 kernel packages, so I can boot fine into 13.10
using the old kernel in grub.
