In finally managed to resolve the issue for my T430s. I had to add the
following boot options to /etc/default/grub:
acpi_osi='!Windows 2012'
- This makes the OSD work properly with 8 brightness steps
video.brightness_switch_enabled=0
- This allows you to have 15 brightness steps (working OSD also
For my Thinkpad T430s, I can confirm that adding acpi_backlight=vendor
as a grub boot option fixes the problem. I only have the Intel GPU
enabled.
However, applying this boot options result in the OSD not correctly
showing the current brightness state (s. attachment); it has always the
same state.
I'm also experiencing the Realtek 8188ce bug issues as well. If there is
anyway I could be a service please tell me what you need.

i *think* lubuntu uses a slightly different setting for configuring up
zram in our desktop images. This was turned on only for lubuntu-desktop
as far as I'm aware (e.g. does not apply to alternate).

The ISO is the standard Ubuntu Saucy ISO with a patched kernel, that has commit
a0c516c applied. ZRAM is configured as a module in Saucy:
CONFIG_ZRAM=m
I'm not exactly sure how lubuntu enables ZRAM during installation time?
Do you have a way to enable ZRAM like mentioned in comment #10? Maybe

with the new kernel, zram is turned off. It not only causes the fail
after install, is suspected of random freezes that we've seen but also

Revert of b1a1442 in upstream v3.12-rc2 resolves bug.
Revert of b1a1442 in Ubuntu Saucy does NOT resolve bug.
There are no Ubuntu specific changes to HID between 3.10 and 3.11-rc1.
The 3.12-rc2 kernel has the following additionl commits on hid-core.c:

I switched from Ubuntu 12.04.3 LTS with 3.80 kernel to Manjaro. The
reason is Ubuntu enables nvidia optimus technology via the latest 319
drivers. In practice Ubuntu is among the few distros where the current
