Dear Christopher,
About testing the latest kernel (with a development Ubuntu, which may be
unrelated to the kernel bug): would not it be better for you to test?
The feedback to you would be more immediate, allowing you to test kernel
tuneables, or maybe tweak/fix/patch the kernel sources.
Thanks,
How am I going to do this?
It still means I have to probe a lot of Kernels - and I do not know how to find
out whether there's trouble unless I send my laptop to sleep and wait at least
minutes up to an hour to see whether the CPU cools down or heats up! :-(
This is so mad

I've tested your patch with the latest kernel (3.11.0-rc4) - the webcam
works OK. After suspend and resume, the webcam works OK too.

Christopher, its looks like I actually have a reasonable record of the
VMWare version I was using for this reproduction despite having
regularly updated my VMWare. . The VMWare installer has a log that
shows that at the time of the reproduction/report here I was running the
VMWare vmplayer 4.0.4

Has anyone tried to disable THP (transparent huge-pages) with the
following command (as root) before using USB stick?
echo "never" > "/sys/kernel/mm/transparent_hugepage/enabled"
This can be easily undone with:
echo "always" > "/sys/kernel/mm/transparent_hugepage/enabled"
Or just with a reboot.
@maxadamo,
I wasn't actually saying "bug in the bios" - I was suggesting the
feature was turned off in the bios. Could you please boot into the bios
(or EFI) and check the 'virtualization' settings? Or if you've already
done that, and it was enabled, please let us know - Thanks!

I was under impression that my use of triple monitor configuration on single
HD4000 GPU is kinda corner case (there might be others on Phoronix forums that
may disagree on this :).
I'm not sure will time spent on backporting this issues will be a benefit to
everyone as this is not the only bug
