the other day I gave KF5 once again a shot on my OSX-Qt5-VM running Mavericks
and I finally was able to build

This is an upstream Qt problem, not directly tied to KDE: in fact, IIRC,
patches proposed were even rejected.

software with X11 support on OS X (via homebrew or macports) is a thing
people do.
