I finally found time to make my trivial example run and it doesn't show the
behaviour: I can highlight text in a QTreeWidgetItem. So I don't know what to
do next. :(
Thanks for the help.

Thanks, Tomas.
It needed a "main.moc" and the SKIP_AUTOMOC removed. And you're right,
it doesn't do anything. Sigh.
I have made a bare-bones version of my code and guess what: it won't link! I
get messages:
/usr/src/dev/kde4/qtwitest/src/main.cpp:17: undefined reference to `vtable for
QtwiTest'
This is usually caused by not supplying a constructor body, but I have done
that. Can anyone see what is wrong?

I will try and make one, but it will take some time.

I have a current Gentoo system with Qt5.15 and KDE 5.26 and I have just
rebuilt some RYO apps I originally wrote back in 2010 and updated to
KF5 in 2018. The affected apps use a QTreeWidget and highlight various
rows using QTreeWidgetItem::setForeground. This has always worked
until I rebuilt the a

My current thoughts are to use an ordinary widget and not a toolbar!
Thanks for the responses

My first KDE4 to KF5 port has gone well and the app now compiles and runs
without any warning messages. :) However, I am now trying to improve some
things. I have a tool bar which is created by the XML support:

I added KF5::KDE4Support to the target link libraries and that problem went
away. This raises the problem: how do I know which link libraries I need? Is
there a list of dependencies somewhere?
Thanks

This is my first KDE4->KF5 conversion so brace for a lot of n00b questions! To
start I am getting compile failures because the wrong include files are
getting picked up:
