With tags you are right, but the use case for ratings is: I rate a file in
Dolphin and this rating should also be used in the music player and vice versa.
This would also be useful if there is a multimedia app (maybe a ported
Bangarang) which can use the same ratings.

well in Plasma (eg usage of baloo for ratings, tags). If I use Plasma, it does
not matter for me if it runs standalone on eg Windows.
By the way: Are there any plans to port Bangarang to Plasma 5 and baloo?
