I wonder if this can be resolved if I buy a new graphics card. Perhaps a

At openSUSE we are testing openSUSE 42.2 Alpha 2. I would be nice to get this
fixed before the end of July in time for the November release. Is this doable?

Yes. It is in widget mode.

I could see having the widget set in this mode by default. However,for the
user that doesn't like to have dozens of icons on his or her desktop switches
to using the folder widget.

Darn. I clicked on the Save Changes button too soon.
I choose #2 . And, I don't have any performance issues with it.

Update
You MUST also install phonon4qt5-backend-vlc and delete
phonon-backend-gstreamer.
The crash will disappear and the mp3 sound will come back to Amarok.
This fixed my problem with openSUSE 13.2
