I've removed the mapping of shifted Alt_R to Meta_R by editing the file
/usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/pc and changing the line
key {[ Alt_L, Meta_L ]};
to
key {[ Alt_L, Alt_L ]};
(just removing the second definitio

IMO there is value to providing a consistent shortcut experience within apps
and globally in the DE. If Qt apps overwhelmingly use key syms, maybe we should
also stick to that..

It seems that in the default keymap, shifted alt has been meta for more than 20
years..
