I can confirm the old behaviour has been restored - if you're on a distro
that's not carrying KDE apps 19.08.3+ (maybe earlier), then you'll have to wait
until the distro makes available the upgrade. (Which is why

As a side note, for anyone looking at this bug:
The current workaround (not with keyboard, but at least it's less painful) is
to open a new Tab from the File Menu:
File --> New Tab
