Your advice worked like a charm! I was finally able to install kid3 custom deb
packages, but I'm kind of confused about the devscripts installing: build.sh
doesn't install it automatically when build.sh de

Probably there are still some root-owned (maybe hidden) folders around. I
suggest that you extract the source archive inside a folder in your home
directory, change into the extracted folder and try again.

Running build.sh as a non-root user (after chmod'ing the kid3 source folder
with all the file inside) halts the process, unable to create temporal files:

After installing devscripts build.sh finally did run, but it halted after a lot
of warnings and fatal errors. It seems as if some paths are missing from the
parameters:

You have to install the package devscripts first:
sudo apt install -y devscripts
By the way: There is no reason to run build.sh as root.
