Another update. It seems higher file size bigger than 499 kb can be imported.
I'm guessing the color profile of the jpeg might be causing the problem. I
optimized the imported jpeg file in Photoshop to web optimized jpeg a

Update* The size of the jpegs that I can import are only 499 kb below.
Anything larger than, the application crashes.
