Oh, a slight amendment - for the "OBSERVED RESULT" section, "View mode" ->
"Continuous" is NOT checked. The problem goes away if I check this, but doing

I'm not able to reproduce this bug with the internal (laptop) display by
turning it off and on (i.e. closing and opening the lid). Menu sizes remain
