You were right about my Exiv2 version.
The digiKam 5.6.0 pre release Linux AppImage bundle does not crash in the same
circumstances.
So this issue seems to be resolved already.

I want to add that digikam also crashes when trying to simply edit the metadata
of that picture (CTRL+SHIFT+M).
