Thank you, I think I will try the appimage method instead.
Question: If I uninstall the snap, then install the appimage, are my digikam
application settings transferable to the appimage installation?

The red indicator is highlighting (an edit was made after the screenshot was
made) that there's a distinct visual difference between an open stack and a
closed stack.

Ok, the issue lies with the OS. I tried kubuntu 20.04 with the stable digikam
6.4 release and it works fine. I suggest to close this and mark this down to
issue with a particular distribution (Zorin).

Tried installing the 7.0.0-rc release via software store (flathub).
it will not launch.
I cannot figure out how to install via that link sent.
