It might be the case that this is in some crazy way specific to my system, it
stopped working properly when I upgraded from 16.04.4 to 18.04 lately

I think Mr. Ruffalo's main point was how badly that makes KDEPlasma look, even
though we know how much work was put into it.
And he is right, because an average user won't look at the bug tracker
