As I stated I found it confusing. Because it's been like this for a long time
as well I don't think it should be changed any more. But, it would be good to

Turned out that, in my case, the terminal actually did work but the text wasn't
really visible. Changing fixed width font to something else than the default
Arimo solved the issue for me.

Usage of applications that use the Terminal component have a high CPU usage.
The best remedy I found is simply disabling the Terminal plugin.
