I have upgraded the computer to KUBUNTU 24.10.
So far I have no issues with PDF files nor with the i915.

The "Latest stable release" seems to be 21.08.3 from 2021-11-04.
The official KUBUNTU version offered is

Despite the unpleasantness ambient in the comments of Albert Astals Cid, I
