Oh, I think you're just using an older version of Plasma that lacks this
feature. We rewrote large bits of it for Plasma 5.10. So stay tuned for the

Kirigami is responsible for rendering the icons.
That said, it also may be that the icons are too low-res. AppStream only offers
resolutions up to 128²px.
