Maybe related - similar delay sometimes affects the "this window is in focus"

Using "System Settings->Fonts" to force a lower dpi , in this case 96, the

It seems comparing the strace output around the time kwin tries to access
/dev/fb0 is similar, so I'm not sure where it is failing... ...how do I get
