You need to check whether it contains gdb optimazation flag in the
compiler argument, such as -O3. If yes, replace it with -O0 and then try
again.

I seem to recall that the gdb interface in qtcreator needs relatively recent
version of python because of some particular feature used. Look in the debugger
log.
