Problem solved so far: I mounted the share with cifs instead of smbfs and
reconstruct ist working now :-)

I'm sorry, forgot to give the version and system: cyrus was compiled from
cyrus-imapd-2.2.12-27.src.rpm and is running on a SuSE Linux 10.1 in a virtual
machine hosted by xen.
