In Outlook, go to the Advanced settings tab for the account, make sure
your root folder path is "Inbox" not "INBOX".

The problem is rather that I cannot see any e-mails in any folders (i.e.
special folders but also any other folders) on the server and local e-mail

after upgrade to 2.4.x series I can see all the folders but don't see any
