You commented that you want to use sasldb and not mysql.
So you have to configure your imap (imap.conf) like this:
sasl_pwcheck_method: auxprop
sasl_mech_list: PLAIN
Whith auxprop you tell imap to use the sasldb.
When you going to use PLAIN passwords you should maybe look into encryption

to fetch mail from a server you can use fetchmail and hand that mail to
cyrus. I am not sure if you can hand it directly to cyrus or pass it
first to an MTA like postfix which delivers email to cyrus.
