Is it a coincidence that the last MD imspd also fails with PLAIN as well

This is a known bug in Cyrus IMSP version 1.6a3; it also affects
GSSAPI. We should release another version.
Unfortunately, the IMSP source isn't in our cvs repository.
I've rectified this; you can
It's quite possible/likely that these are not issues for most sites but I
wanted to raise them to see what, if anything, others do/have done.
1) unlike login on most *nix systems imspd will let an attacker know if
a guessed username exists or not.
2) unlike login on most *nix systems I have used,

It's handled by your MTA.

Hi!
I think, I also experienced similar problems with that release.
I think you should try upgrading to the latest version (2.0.16)

You've to use your MTA (like sendmail) for mail aliases. In case of
sendmail edit
/etc/mail/aliases and then run sendmail -bi as root.

Hi,
I have a FreeBSD 4.4 system which has been running cyrus-imapd
2.0.16 with cyrus-sasl 1.5.24 using sasldb for authentication.
Now I'm trying to add imspd v1.6a3. The build and install went
fairly smoothly; but when I try imtest, it reports authentication
errors when I try PLAIN or DIGEST-MD5
I got the same error when adding "-u cyrus -auth
login"...
BTW, "imtest" authenticates without problems:
su-2.05$ imtest -u cyrus -m login localhost
