Hi all, I am new on this list (and new of Gentoo).

I understood its features but I do not know WHEN use them.
Some questions:

Hi everybody.
To-day I installed kdebase using "emerge kdebase".
But the installed version was 3.4.3.
Is it right? Did not KDE reach 3.5 version?

Hi all. It's me, again.
I have set my /etc/fstab following the instractions of the Handbook. In the
example there is this entry:
/dev/cdroms/cdrom0 /mnt/cdrom auto noauto,user0 0
To-day I discovered that there is no /cdroms subdirectory in /dev directory.
Is it a bug either of
Hi all
I have the need to configure my USRobotics internal modem (pci card) for
faxing. Running "lspci" the modem is not seen.
Should I load any module or enable any kernel entry (during the installation
of Gentoo I used genkernel)?
Where may I find documentation on this topic?
Bye

Almost every time I login the icons of the desktop moved and mixed.
I tried checking every possible options (KDE Comtrol Center), with no results.
Any hints.

Hi everybody.
I think gentoo is driving me crazy.
Since I found out the I can listen .wav file but not .ogg file, to-day I
installed libvorbis, mpeg123 and vorbis-tools.
But the result is the same . . . I cannot listen .ogg file.

USE flags doubts (again).
If I run this command:
emerge -pv hplip
the output is:
[ebuild R ] net-print/hplip-0.9.7-r3 +X +cups +foomaticdb -ppds +qt
+scanner* -snmp +usb 0 kB
There are 5 flags prefixed by a plus and red coloured (+X, +cups, +foomaticdb,

Hi all,
after emerging and emerging . . .
and an enrge --newuse world
the system bell keeps on not working.
With System bell I mean:
KDE Control Center -> Sound & Miltimedia -> System bell
I controlled the volume levels on kmix and aumix.
I do not know which other attempt to try.

Hi all
to-day I re-compiled the kernel to enable PCSPKR and USB printer.
1 - the system bell works but as root only. Likely a matter of permissions,
but I do not know where to look for;
2 - the printer is correctly detected, but when I try to set it up using cups
I see no printer modules. The fo

Hi all, I recompiled my kernel and now the system bell plays . . . but as root
only.
I tried to add myself as normal users to the following groups:
root, sys, adm, tty, console
with no results.
Any other hints?
Thank you
