nothing new in a while Does Xorg need to be re-emerged to get this
working?
And does that file name libglx.so.1.0.7174 seem right?

No problem, I simply re-installed the drivers downloaded direct from ATI
and now everything is working including direct rendering!
I think some notes should be made on the ATI-FAQ about re-emerging Xorg.

I'm a bit new to this portage system so I still seem to have problems
figuring out how to keep everything up to date plus sometimes access the
bleeding edge stuff.
