I'm not a BRL-CAD (or any CAD for that matter ;) ) user, but take
a look at the file name you're downloading.
It's probably a pre-compiled binary, so that's probably why there
is no configure either? The source is

Can you elaborate on this? Do you just mean that there are many small
things that are blocking Gentoo's progress?

to get the job done) were missing:
/usr/bin/DBMirror.pl
/usr/lib/postgresql/pending.so
/usr/share/postgresql/contrib/AddTrigger.sql
/usr/share/postgres

I want to add a grub menu entry that will load the system without
starting gdm, just like the livecd does when the 'nox' kernel parameter is
passed. I poked around the CD a bit to figure out how that's done but
failed. Does the kernel have to be modified to do this? Thanks for any
pointers.

There is a "softlevel" option to add in your grub entry to switch to a
different RC.

Hello all,
I am using the same topic as Rafael Barrera Oro the 6th of September 2007
I updated portage
from sys-apps/portage-2.0.54-r2
to sys-apps/portage-2.1.3.19
And the unmerging of sys-apps/portage-2.0.54-r2
ended like this :
Oh well.. replying to myself
to avoid anyone trying to resolve that problem.
I ordered a reinstallation...

If you don't have any other use for the 'single' runlevel, you can use
the softlevel grub option (softlevel=single) to boot without X. It
works great for me.

I've followed the HOWTO at http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO:_Qemu,
but the section on TUN/TAP networking appears to be wrong where
it says
I would recommend that you create the tap device with
ownership to the user running qemu as follows
tunctl -u -t tap0
This prevents having to run q

Hi guys,
I just had discussion with my friend which file system to use on
laptop with Gentoo.
- ReiserFS looks unsupported now
- ext3 looks slow some time
- XFS maybe?
Requirements are:
- low memory usage
- fast enough for laptop
- good supported
Any ideas?

The defaults are slow, but you can change them and make it OK. Not
super fast, but OK. Check out
/usr/src/linux/Documentation/filesystems/ext3.txt, and tweak the

What do you base that assessment on ? It's true
that RFS 4 was going nowhere even before its creator's legal problems,
but RFS 3 is still well-supported as a Gentoo pkg, isn't it ?

Hi,
I'm going to install gentoo on a new PC with an AMD Phenom in it.
I already read http://gentoo-wiki.com/Safe_Cflags but am not sure what to use.
The Phenom has four cores and SSE, SSE2, SSE3 and SSE4a support.
Any hints?
