Roy~ I've been leaning toward building the kernel myself; maybe this is a good time to jump in... I know from lspci that, in addition to the nvidia kernel (which module-rebuild correctly identifies), that ipw2100 (wireless) is a module that I had to emerge in order to be functional on my laptop.
