Not sure if this will answer your question, but you can adjust which font is
used by the kernel framebuffer either in the kernel:
Device Drivers -->
Graphics Support -->
Console Display Driver Support -->
[] Select compiled-in fonts
or by adding fbcon=font as a boot option
