I did this when I switched to KDE 3.4.0 and didn't run into any big problem, besides recompiling everything that rellied on arts. Some KDE releases ago I have tried to use -arts flag and met some difficulties (do not remeber exactly). Now, I use these rules: - do not use '-arts' flag anywhere - turn arts ("Sound Server") off in KDE Control Centre - ignore ALSA in a kernel source tree - use alsa-[kernel,lib,utils,oss,...] ins
