That's all there is.
What happens? Is my Thunderbird badly configured, or what?
I should be grateful for hints.

It sounds like you don't have kde-i18n installed. Set LINGUAS in
make.conf before you emerge it.
That was it: I did as you advised and that fixed every

Hello,
I am having trouble while installing 2006.1 on my iMac. I have made
other installations before, but never had this problem.
I am using the Universal ppc disk, and I have followed strictly all the
steps in the 2006.1 handbook. I have not made any modules, everything is
in the kernel.

It's not easy to install things in Gentoo without Internet access,
especially when it's about installing the Internet connexion itself.
My ISP uses PPPoA, and I have a Speedtouch USB modem, the installation
of which requires ppp-2.4.3. This is not provided by the distfiles, so I
used a tarball

Hello!
I believe that my console does not work as it ought to.
There are two main troubles. First, the text does not move as it gets
written. In order to read the result of a command that produces a

Your hardware clock is supposed to be at UTC?
Check with 'grep CLOCK= /etc/conf.d/clock'.
Your time zone is correctly set?
Check with 'ls -l /etc/localtime'.
If those are okay, do:

A little practical problem.
In the 2.4 sources, there is a file called /Documentation/configure.help

that are available on request in menuconfig, so that they can be read at
leisure.

Hello!
I am posting this to both gentoo-user and gentoo-ppc-user lists.
My problem concerns the installation of Gentoo Linux on my G4 iMac,
using the 2005.1 universal ppc disk.
I should first mention that I have done this before, using the 2005.0
disk, and there was no trouble whatsoever.

Hello!
I am getting confused with profile, bashrc, etc.
The prompt string I want to use is
PS1="[EMAIL PROTECTED] \W]\$ "
I therefore wrote it in /etc/profile (at two levels, root and non-root),
~/.bash_profile and ~/.bashrc.
If I log in as a plain user (moi), I get this:

While installing Gentoo on my G4 iMac from the Universal 2005.0 disk, I
was able to go as far as configuring the kernel. But, at the make step,

I had put my question on this list two or three weeks ago, and Mark

Now, I have made some progress and the problem is different.
To summarize: on my G4 iMac, Yellow Dog Linux 4.0.1 is installed on the

The disk on my G4 iMac contains an installation of Yellow Dog Linux
4.0.1 and two Apple partitions housing Macos 9 and 10 respectively.
I also have an external Firewire disk, which I had reformatted, leaving
a large unallocated space at the top (with a vague idea of putting
another Linux there).
