Ok I removed generic SIS IDE and compiled with experimental SIS pata driver.
The system gained in responsiveness, but I still miss performances on
the hdd. It still spins a lot. I tried hdparm with sda_args="-A1 -c0 "
but nothing changed.
New ideas? :)

When my pc tries to compile enblend it reaches some point when gcc
takes 100% of ram and 100% of cpu, and start taking megs and megs of

The version you have installed had the dbus use flag disabled. Now the dbus
use flag has been readded to both of qt-4.2.1{,-r1}. You've added qt-4.2.1 to
your package.unmask so now you need to either disable the dbus use flag or
add dbus to package.unmask also.

It finally happened: openoffice is expected to compile and work natively
on amd64. In fact, I have just removed the package.mask entry.
Versions starting from 2.0.4 should work and are therefore marked
testing on amd64 (i.e. there still might be problems - please file bugs
if you find any). That
after a fresh boot, with only gdm running, mplayer works fine. in ssh
shell or via gnome-terminal using vnc.
Maybe it's really Xgl related.

I have aircrack installed on my system. As I wrote last week, I
switched to gcc4 so did an emerge -e world. Bad surprise, aircrack is
not compiling anymore. I tried switching back to gcc3.4.6 but yet the
same problem.
Does anyone of you experience the same?

I have distcc on my laptop and on my work server. I use this last one
to compile laptop stuff. I was using distcc with gcc3.4, now I'm
trying to install gcc 4.1.1 on the server but it's returning this
error.
One other thing, based on the error...
I'm trying to upgrade a x86 distcc host for crossdev from gcc 3.4 to 4.1.1.
When I run crossdev to compile gcc I get the following error in the logs:

But I don't know why it worked only for the first 10 minutes! :(
